Eurynomos

The Big Scary Bird Man looks for demigods while defending its nest

The Eurynomos is a creature (vaguely vulture-like) that eats the bodies of the creatures and demigods it defeats. Supremely hard to destroy, this creature has made its nest behind the Camp Half-Blood Austin Dining Hall, in the Garden of Hesperides. This terrifying death bird stands around seven feet tall and is covered in black iridescent feathers, its face made of aged bone.

Lovingly referred to as the “Big Scary Bird Man,” the Eurynomos is known to hoard all kinds of treasures and magical artifacts in its nest for safekeeping. Because of this, weekly patrols are sent out into the Garden of Hesperides in order to retrieve items and to allow campers to master their reconnaissance skills.

When approaching the nest, one should always watch to see if the Eurynomos is nearby. If you get too close and are scratched by one of its talons, you will slowly begin to rot from the inside out. Once the rotting process is finished, you will be bound to Hades forever as a personal zombie soldier, with no chance of making it to Elysium or the Fields of Asphodel.

Eurynomoi can be distracted or persuaded with shiny objects or chocolates. The Eurynomos that lurks around Camp Half-Blood Austin hoarded magic chocolates from the Mayan Goddess IxCacao, and would only give them up when we traded them for a Eurynomos egg at the end of the Summer of 2019. This was the last sighting of the Eurynomos.
